Am I eligible? 

We are excited to announce that Stepping Into is now accepting recent graduates with disability who have graduated within 36 months!

To be eligible, you need to be:

  • In your final or second-last year of university (undergraduate or postgraduate degrees), or have graduated from university within 36 months
  • An Australian citizen, Permanent Resident or international student with full working rights in Australia
  • Live within Australia
  • From any field of study or degree, as long as you fit the position descriptions of the internships in your preferences
  • A person with any types of disability, mental health conditions, ongoing injury or chronic illness

The Stepping Into Program is for students with all types of disability including, but not limited to: physical disability, mental health conditions, sensory impairments and immunological conditions. We are happy to work with you to figure out if you meet these criteria.

How do I apply?

Read the details on our information page for students, look at the available position descriptions, and complete our online application form here by midnight 2nd October 2022 (Sunday).

We welcome previous Stepping Into applicants to re-apply!

There is no limitation on how many times you can apply or participate in the program if you still meet the criteria. We are happy to reconsider previous applicants of the Stepping Into program. Contact us on 1300 36 36 45 or email applications@and.org.au to request your previous application be copied with at least three of your position preferences.

What is the Stepping Into program?

The Stepping Into program offers practical paid work experience for successful students and recent graduates with disability who may face significant obstacles in gaining employment.

Things you need to know about the Stepping Into Internship Program:

  • Over 200 internships are available across the country (in both capital cities and regional areas)
  • Over 35 host organisations from both public and private sector are participating this Summer
  • All internships are paid
  • Students from all degree and discipline are welcome to apply
  • Internships will generally last 4 to 8 weeks (with the opportunity for flexible work hours to manage your disability or other commitments)
  • Program has a strong Workplace Adjustment focus

Since the Program commenced in 2005: Stepping Into program has provided 2000+ internships, received 4000+ student applications and had 140+ participating employers.
