These Scholarships have been established by the University of Adelaide in conjunction with the Department for Education and Child Development (“DECD”). Funding for these scholarships has been provided by a bequest to the University from Esther Burns, a teacher who spent many years teaching in Port Augusta and Quorn, with matching funds from DECD.

The scholarships will provide $1,000 to assist with education and living costs for students who are qualified to teach Science or Maths and who intend to complete a country teaching practicum.

The scholarships are open to students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia and undertaking the final year of a Bachelor of Teaching or a Graduate Diploma of Education program at the University of Adelaide.

Students must be a Commonwealth Supported student and undertaking their study on a full or part time basis.

Up to 6 scholarships will be available each year. The maximum duration of the scholarships is one year.

Selection for this scholarship will be made according to academic merit which will be determined according to students’ cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for the preceding years.
